Hodan Nalayeh

We want to commemorate and remember Canadian-Somali activist Hodan Nalayeh, who hosted International Women’s Day  in 2017. Her legacy will never be forgotten. Somali women came together on the 11th of March to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event featured a variety of speakers sharing their stories and personal journeys, various stalls featuring traditional products and cakes, and a fashion show. The purpose of the night was to bring together Somali women, help inspire them to achieve their dreams and support each other in being confident as women and mothers. Keynote speakers included Nomad Speaks, among others, who delivered a powerful message about the need to believe in one another and in ourselves in order to reach goals and aspirations. Hodan Nalayeh was a massive inspiration to the community and especially young Somalis. She was proud to be Somali and her legacy will live on.
